What will happen on the courses

We are working with national climate change charity, Hope for the Future, and they will be presenting information during some of the courses.

In relation to climate change we will be looking at the causes, consequences and what can we do to try and limit it.

This is a writing project and we will be helping the children get inspired to write a short story.

During the sessions we will look at the following:

  • Creating inspiring characters - climate champions - based on ourselves
  • Create a scene for our story
  • Plotting and planning our stories
  • Thinking of a moral to end our story.
We will show the children literary devices such as show not tell in the sessions and we feel that the experience of attending the courses will really help their writing in school and at home.

After the writing courses have finished we will be organising spoken word sessions for children to attend in all six areas of the LCR with a local poet to help develop their storytelling skills.

(All the Climate Champions in our promotional material are real children)

Who will be running the courses
Either local authors Charlie Lea or Natalie Denny will run the creative writing workshops. Joseph Roberts will run the spoken word sessions. All have enhanced DBS certificates.

Anthology
The children will be encouraged to write a short story of up to 1000 words which will, if they want, be included into a published anthology and e-book. We will use recycled paper to print the anthology. Copies of the anthology will be added to all six libraries catalogues, donated to the schools involved and each climate champion who submitted a story will also get a copy.

Showcasing the Stories
We will hold a storytelling event at Liverpool Central Library where the children will have the opportunity to read their story to an audience of friends and family. We are also planning to hold some more storytelling events and will let you know where once they have been arranged.
